Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Whangaroa
This is a new school on a green field site and provides 5 classrooms, administration areas, library, resource and hall along with support facilities.
We were engaged to prepare a design that incorporates 7 classrooms with the construction of 5 for the first stage.
The design provides for a formal entry to reflect the cultural context along with a shape and detailing that makes reference to images and ideas that reflect the Whanau’s beliefs and aspirations.
The primary focus is to ensure the preservation and enhancement of the Maori language.
On completion the school received from the NZ green building council the first 5 green star rating for a school in NZ
