Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Kotuku
Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Kotuku is an existing Kura in Swanson set on a hill overlooking West Auckland. Established in 2010, the roll had grown so much that two additional teaching spaces were required to deliver the curriculum.
DLM were commissioned by the Ministry of Education to complete this work with the schools aspiration to develop space not only for teaching and learning but to provide for a place to stay. There was a requirement that the spaces delivered could provide the opportunity for sleeping.
Whilst this caused a number of considerations these were solved through provision of the appropriate egress and fire ratings along with a mattress store and food preparation areas. The building itself is open plan but with flexible options for division and it breaks out to the east with a large deck overlooking the city.
