Rangitoto College New Drama Building

Having carried out a number of small commissions for the school DLM were asked to put together a proposal for a new drama building.​ The plan was to provide a flexible building that could function both as two classrooms but have specialist performance space. The design delivered a building that opens in two directions so it could be used as one space or as two separate spaces. In addition it opens to the exterior so the audience could be external. The single performance space has mobile tiered seating for intimate shows of an audience up to 80. For a bigger summer time events the performance can turn 180 degrees to face the outside to deliver to a larger audience. Above the adjacent green room there is a control room that opens directly over the performance space to provide oversite of the shows for lighting and sound.
