Northcross Intermediate school
DLM was invited to upgrade nine existing single cell classrooms that were grouped in three blocks divided by courtyards. The development utilized the courtyard spaces as a linkage between the classrooms as well as creating covered outdoor learning spaces that could be used all year round.
A modern industrial aesthetic with exposed cable services trays, black steel portal frames, minimal built in joinery and large extents of glass create a flexible and practical environment for students. The existing corridors are visually connected to the teaching spaces with large windows and glazed doors and a feature timber batten ceiling connects the indoor and outdoor walkways. A hearing loop was incorporated into the services design as well as lighting and wifi in the courtyards for school performances.
